Spreadsheet editing requires that you double click on each cell in order to put data into the cell. Would it be possible to allow normal editing of a spreadsheet where it would move to the next cell after hitting enter? It would also be nice if it would type simply by starting to type. Would it also be possible to move the cell selector by using arrows.
I tested this out in Vista using IE. The spreadsheet editing seems to work. The problem seems related to firefox. I am going to do further testing but so far I have tested this in Firefox in OSX Leopard and Iceweasel in Debian. The arrow keys do not seem to move and entering cell data into the spreadsheet forces you to double click on each individual cell. I will test Firefox on a Windows machine and see if I get the same results.
I just tested this in FF for Windows. It seems to be a problem with Firefox. IE (of all things) seems to edit the spreadsheet like a normal app when using the web client. Firefox forces you to double click on individual cells in order to do so. This is not good for me because my goal was to eliminate all MS based products. The spreadsheet editing is somewhat important. I hope a developer can take a look at why IE can edit a spreadsheet as though it was Excel, and FF can not. Seems to be something missing there.
Just tested with Safari and Iceweasel (which I suppose is also Firefox). Same problem. IE will allow me to edit a spread sheet as though I am using a normal spread sheet application, but webkit based browsers seem to require a double click on each individual cell. Is there possibly something I am missing here? Really just can't see IE working and FF not. Is there another browser alternative that someone could direct me to that may work? Or can someone please fix this?
As do Gecko based browsers. It is a serious let down to see IE7 do something FF can not.
I just tried installing Zimbra Desktop on my MacBook and have the same problems editing the spreadsheet. So far I have tested it in Firefox, Iceweasel, Zimbra Desktop, in Windows, Linux (Debian), Nexenta (OpenSolaris), OSX. ZDesktop is not allowing me to use the arrow keys in the spreadsheet nor is it allowing me to just start typing data into spreadsheet fields. I am at a loss and this is a real deal breaker. I need the spreadsheet to work in order to do a full migration to Zimbra and this is the only thing holding us up. So far the only thing that seems to work is Internet Explorer 7 in Windows. Nothing else that I have tried (and I have tried everything but Chrome) works. If anybody can help me out with this one I would really appreciate it. I will continue to search for solutions but I don't think many people care as much as we do for the Document features of Zimbra. Once this issue is resolved we are planning on removing all Microsoft products.
Sorry. I know to many it may not seem like a major issue but now that I've tried ZDesktop with it and it does the same thing I am thinking there was a major flaw in the UI that prevents editing in mozilla based browsers and applications. Cmon, IE7 only for making a spreadsheet feel like a spreadsheet? I'm starting to think Gates made the spreadsheet UI. :). Please developers. Fix this.
Moving target milestone to Helix. In 6.0 we'll have a new/improved beta version of spreadsheets, and those support single click editing and arrow keys.
I know it has been a while since I've checked on this bug but I decided to change it to "All Browsers" since spreadsheet editing does not work in Chrome as well. I love the Documents section of Zimbra and really hope work is being done to make it a little better (like allowing movement or export/import of docs into notebooks and such). Thanks for an awesome interface, just let me get away from ie and it would be perfect. ;)
I have upgraded to 6.0.2 in hopes that this bug with the spreadsheet editing would have been addressed. So we are still stuck with having to double click cell spreadsheets in any other browser but IE after months of this bug being "assigned." This in addition to the catastrophe of the upgrade from 5.0.18 to 6.0.2 where there was just problem after problem led our company to believe that using open source Operating Systems and software is not a viable solution to deploy because of problems that go unsolved for far too long and that Zimbra, although promising, does not live up to the expected result in a work environment until development is much further along. Considering we have used the trial edition with hopes of deploying a massive network edition install if all went well I can say that we are disappointed that so many problems have still gone unresolved. I guess you get what you pay for and it looks like there may be some worth in paying a higher premium for a more supported and viable MS Exchange server. Keep up the good work. We will check back in 2020 and see if real world applications of Zimbra have been fixed.
Actually, on the focused cell, start typing and it would work. Only when u wanna edit selective content in the cell, is when u want to double click.
Incorrectly marked resolved/won't fix by filer.
I have just tried this with 6.0.2_GA_1912.UBUNTU8_64.NETWORK in Firefox 3.5.3 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20091021 Shiretoko/3.5.3) and this seem to work as expected. I can select any cell with one click, move around with arrow keys and type in any cell. I'll try this on a windows machine later today.
I've just tested this on Firefox 3.0.11 and this seems to work just fine too. (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 Firefox/3.0.11 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729))
Marking fixed for 6.0.3
verified on Release 6.0.4_GA_2028.RHEL4_20091206014123 RHEL4 NETWORK edition
Well. I am running the OSE so I don't know. Maybe there is some sort of option I am missing in FF or some sort of plug in? The newer (beta) spreadsheet works fine, but I am concerned about the one which is integrated into the actual Documents tab. I still can not use arrows in FF on any OS (Linux, OSX, Windows), nor can I simply type in the cell. I have to double click each individual cell I wish to enter data into. If I am missing something here please let me know.
Sorry... Running GA 6.0.3 Open Source Edition ... has the same problem running RHEL and Debian versions. In case that helps. Maybe NE has something special in it that allows it to work?
Changed to 6.0.3 since the bug persists. Hopefully it was fixed in 6.0.4 but the oss version of 6.0.4 isn't out yet.
Updated to 6.0.4. Problem persists so changed bug to reflect that it is also in 6.0.4. The new spreadsheet still works fine in FF but the embedded one in pages in the documents tab still will not respond to inputs using the arrow keys and cells still require a double click to input data into them. This is still causing me to halt a Zimbra deployment in the company and swapping over to NE. Hopefully it is fixed in 6.0.5?
(In reply to comment #14) > I've just tested this on Firefox 3.0.11 and this seems to work just fine too. > (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060215 > Firefox/3.0.11 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)) > Sorry, but you're wrong. Are you sure you are using the embedded spreadsheet in the Documents tab and not the new spreadsheet located in the Briefcase tab? I have tested it in multiple Operating Systems in multiple browsers. IE is the only one that allows using arrows in the embedded spreadsheet as well as input by typing while on a selected cell.
Mace, you've got me there, I used the spreadsheet in Briefcase and not the one in Documents. I've just tested it in the same browsers and I have to double click every field to be able to edit it as you have described in the original report.
Well. Hopefully someone takes a look at it. The embedded spreadsheet is what prevents me from deploying Zimbra at my company whose goal it is to remove all MS based software and use the web client for Zimbra only. I like the documents tab a lot better than the new way where it uses the briefcase. I suppose all we can do is wait and hope.
This has been assigned for quite a while. Is there any word of any progress with this issue? This problem is the only thing holding me up from getting a NE license for clients and moving away from exchange.
Changed version as this bug is still persistent in 6.0.7. Embedded spreadsheets are still unable to be properly edited in the Documents tab. Is there any word on if this bug will find some attention? Currently the newer beta spreadsheet and document creator are very immature in development. They are used with the briefcase, open a new full screen window to create the spreadsheet or document, can not print, etc. I honestly believe the documents tab is the best solution and hopefully the newer beta versions find their way into the documents tab and do not stay in the briefcase tab and finally find the ability to print, but I also think the beta versions are unnecessary if the current documents/notebook method is repaired in order to repair functionality.
Documents are not supported as of 7.0. Setting all bugs and enhancements to wontfix.
Document tab is not supported by ZCS any more, hence closing the issue.
